Perplexed but Not in Despair: Pastoral Care During Cultural Free Fall
February 21-23, 2022
Lindenwood Retreat & Conference Center — Plymouth, IN
DOXOLOGY II is a three-day seminar for DOX grads. We will be building upon the original curriculum and extending the conversation about what it means to be a faithful pastor who cares for the souls of others and one’s self.
This event is a timely offering, responding to significant pastoral care challenges in the midst of cultural free fall. Although COVID continues to cause turmoil in and outside of the church, the culture staggers dangerously in response to clamorous agendas challenging life, family and faith, alike. Truths of science, history and God are dissed. Those who dare to speak or take action against the prevailing cultural winds risk battle, abuse or cancellation by a self-appointed ruling class. Logic and reasoned conversation have given way to hurling accusations and insistence not only on compliance, but endorsement of the latest cause of the woke. Pastors will benefit from an opportunity to think together about pastoral responses to the culture without as well as the individuals and families within the parish. A myriad of competing spiritualities plus the complexity of social and moral confusion pervades the 21st Century world. Human spiritual and emotional health are under increasing pressure, creating a need for pastors who are themselves spiritually and emotionally healthy as well as equipped with new and effective tools to make a difference in the lives of the people they serve. The opportunity to think about these things in the company of your brothers, with skilled facilitators will surely be a blessing for you and those whom you serve.
